Betty and Johannes Berie founders of the German Bakery in Costa Rica are Germans and bakers at heart with a master´s certificate in bakery, from one of the technical institutes of his country.
¨ We came to Costa Rica in 1993, having been persuaded by all our friends’ favorable comments about this wonderful country. Little by little Hans started a small bakery business. ¨

We make our German-quality bread in an old traditional wood oven. Since the very beginning, we have introduced to Costa Rica dinner tables and food services more than 100 varieties of bread. One of our most important features is that we grind our own grains and flour. This allows us to work with naturally fermented doughs, like the best antique traditional German style. As well we use fresh ground grains and flour in all our recipes which come from a longstanding traditional German Heritage.

Nowadays in 2023, the ¨small bakery business¨ has completely evolved into the well-known Restaurant and Pizzeria Europa – Powered by The German Bakery. We are in the top leading quality restaurants in the province of Guanacaste and the whole country. Providing our guests with a blended gastronomy that combines Costa Rican, German, and Italian dishes. We have been working with an Italian restauranteur, that helped us improve not only our food but also our service, quick response, and efficiency because our clients are the most important to us. The only thing we want is for you to leave our beautiful place with the will to come back as soon as possible.
